Almost all the fruits we eat are packed with some powerful elements that are powerful for us. Pineapple here is the same. They are sweet and juicy. We usually add them in salads and deserts in small quantity. We eat it in a raw form too at times but here the question is that can our dogs eat pineapple too?
Is it safe?
According to a very well known author and a veteran, Dr. Jeff Webber the fruit pineapple is not only safe but also healthy for our dogs. There is no need to worry if they are fed in a moderate way.
If your dog has never eaten a bit of this fruit, then try it out in a small amount and observe them for an hour or so and if you detect any stomach upset that’s when you know it does not suit them. If you do not want to risk it, all you have to do is go to the vet and get permission of it.
How healthy is pineapple?
Along with other fruits, these too are packed with multiple benefits. They have minerals, nutrients and protein in them.
An option to feed this to your little pup is better than feeding them other snacks. The ripe version of this fruits itself has a whole lot of Vitamin C, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, and folate. You can find minerals too, like manganese, copper, potassium, magnesium, iron, and small amounts of calcium, phosphorous, and zinc. That being said, we now know how beneficial it us as a dog needs these components in their food. However, you must know that you can only feed them a certain amount.
Why can we only feed our dogs a certain amount of pineapple?
As we have always heard that, when were more exposed to anything it gives us adverse reaction. Taking pineapples for instance, they fruits contain a high amount of sugar. Despite the sugar, being in the form of a fruit can absolutely cause harmful effects to the dogs.
Dogs digestive system are not build up in a way to feed them a huge quantity of sugar. If by mistake they do, the sugar would cause their digestive system trouble. They might get excessive diarrhea and can face other problems too. Therefore, it is better to take precautions.
Can pineapple be fed as a whole to the dogs?
No. The only part that should be fed is the fleshy part. As the peel of the pineapple is toxic, that is harmful for your dog.
Fresh pineapples should only be given since the canned one consist of more sugar, which again is more triggering for them.
How should it be give to them?
Pineapple in small quantity should be fed to them and try not making it a habit but give it to them in a seldom manner. You can add them with other fruits and their regular food.
Another thing you can share them in different ways.
- The best way to feed them is to give them fresh and raw chunks of the pineapple, which they would enjoy a lot.
- Too, make it more scrumptious, blend the pineapple, add yogurt in it, and freeze them in dollops. Give it to them as a treat in the summer days.
- Cut the pineapples and mix it with their dinner. Something new and tasty.
- You can also bake and grill them. While making treats at home for your dog, add a little in their cookies. And just grill few slices, let it cool and serve it to them.
